College of Law New Zealand appoints Monique Pearson as Chief Executive Officer

The College of Law is pleased to announce the appointment of Monique Pearson as Chief Executive Officer, New Zealand.

Monique joins the College from the Arbitrators' and Mediators' Institute of New Zealand (AMINZ), where she has served as Executive Director since January 2024. Her executive career includes leadership roles with AMINZ, EY, PwC and academyEX, spanning professional services, education and member-based organisations.

Monique is also well known across the New Zealand legal profession through her leadership of the New Zealand Bar Association, where she served as Executive Director from 2006 to 2011. She was later awarded Honorary Life Membership in recognition of her contribution to the Association. Monique also brings extensive governance experience across education, financial services and social impact organisations, and currently serves on the Board of the New Zealand Society of Association Executives.

Group Chief Executive Officer Marcus Martin said Monique's appointment reflects the College's commitment to strong leadership and continued growth in New Zealand.

"Monique brings a rare combination of strategic leadership, commercial insight and a deep understanding of the legal profession. She has successfully led organisations through growth and transformation, and I am confident she is the right person to lead our New Zealand business into its next chapter.”

Chair of the College of Law New Zealand Board, Chris Moore, said Monique's appointment is an exciting one.

"We are pleased to see someone of Monique's calibre appointed to lead the College's New Zealand business. She understands the profession we serve and brings the experience to lead the College through its next phase of growth. The New Zealand Board looks forward to working with her as we continue to support lawyers and the profession across New Zealand."

Monique said she is looking forward to joining the College and working with the New Zealand team.

The legal profession is changing rapidly, bringing new opportunities as well as new demands on the skills and capabilities lawyers need throughout their careers. I am excited to be joining an organisation with such a strong reputation for practical legal education and a genuine commitment to supporting lawyers at every stage of their careers. I look forward to working with the New Zealand team to build on the College’s strong foundations and ensure we continue to evolve with the profession we serve.”

Monique will commence with the College on Monday 2 November 2026.
